Shiian, a Shetland Sheep Dog who herds people, cats and a cockatiel!

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

avatarHi, Sherpa!

A word about myself: You can find me @ our estate in Newburgh, where I will be audibly most excited to see you!

I’m a herding dog (Shetland Sheep Dog) and am in charge of a household with 5 cats to keep in line as well as a cockatiel who needs protection. There are also 3 humans and when we go for walks I have to make sure they keep together. I also like to chase deers and turkeys, but once they’re off the property, I don’t chase them into the woods. I take my work very seriously, but when I’m just relaxing, I’m very, very sweet – – and also do many, many GOOD BOY THINGS – too numerous to mention here

Join me & FACES to fight epilepsy!

FACES stands for: “Finding A Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures,” which is the non-profit arm of the New York University Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. It has a vitally important mission – improve the quality of life of those affected by epilepsy through research initiatives, education and awareness, community-building events and more.

Recently, FACES held a fund-raiser and guess what figured prominently in the donation-ads section of the event’s commemorative booklet? The Many “Faces” of Sherpaboy!, that’s what. This illustration is just one of nine that I not only posed for but also donated to have included. (Although Mommy and Daddy did help me write the check.)

Robby

avatarHi, Sherpa!

I’m a nearly seven-year old Chinese Pug born in May 2004 in Alabama and shipped to West Hollywood, CA where I was adopted in January 2005 by Dave.  I was named so as one of Dave’s then office suite mates received a visit from English singer-songwriter Robby Williams on the day I came into Dave’s life — hence the name Robby (although Dave sometimes calls me “Robbydog” or “Mr. Puggs.”)

I relocated along with Dave to Washington, DC’s Northwest District in the spring of 2010. I frequently visit the Adams Morgan and DuPont Circle Dog Parks, sometimes wearing my padded winter coat pictured here.

I’m much happier here in the East now that I have sidewalks on which to promenade and tree lined streets where I “own the trees.”

Unlike many children, I actually like Broccoli. I’m also sweet and spritely, love my walks, my bones, and my “squeaky” toys.  My favorite pastime is finding and removing the “squeakers” from my dog toys, proudly handing them over to Dave.

This year I saw snow for the first time and upon seeing the stuff — froze mid-step, not knowing whether to proceed into the possibly acid-like substance or to turn and run back into the building.

While I have visited NYC once and walked the Central and West Village neighborhoods with gusto, I have as of yet no exposure to Times Square or Broadway entertainment fare, ‘though I might go for a small production of “Pug-by-Pug by Sondheim”, or maybe a first-time stage appearance with Bernadette Peters together performing “Dog Bones from Heaven.”

‘Cause I got the best comedy teacher there is!

My Aunty Marilyn (a.k.a. Marilyn Sokol) has been called: “a marvel” by The New York Times, “hilarious” by The LA Times, and “lethally funny” by The Village Voice.

She’s appeared on Off Broadway, Broadway and television and in major motion pictures, like Foul Play, with Goldie Hawn.

And when she’s not teaching her craft at Lehman College, she’s giving private and group acting lessons — mostly to people.

Click here to see Marilyn’s website.

And go to YouTube.com and type Marilyn Sokol in the search box and you can see clips of her acting, singing, voice overs and being interviewed about it all. Here are two of my Aunty Marilyn faves on YouTube.

Mommy & Daddy Celebrate Their 39th!

In Hollywood, people are followed by the paparazzi but in New York recently a caricaturist was dispatched to record the 39th wedding anniversary dinner of my Mommy & Daddy (aka, Myrna & Freddie Gershon), who were married on September 26th, 1971!

Meanwhile, I waited outside in the car with Shakoor. I didn’t mind. Shakoor is real cool and it was, after all, Mommy & Daddy’s special night.

N.B.: These are mere thumbnails of the caricatures. If you’d like to see them online, full-size, follow the prompts below. Why, you can even download a printable PDF of each full size image — suitable for ‘fridge door “framing”!

The house call road to (my) recovery!

I’m getting over my illness, more and more, with each passing day. But I still need some care

So Mommy and Daddy asked Charlene Overcash, owner of Pet Home Health Agency, to make a house call! (This photo and related story appeared ran in The Bark magazine. See links below for more info about the magazine.)

(And check out this great artist’s conception of the visit by my uncle Bruce Cayard!)

Charlene was very nice. Her business is one of a growing list of pet services that are making house calls now.

(The photo and Bruce’s drawing have been cropped and reduced here for space reasons. See below for links to full-size versions. )

Myrna and Freddie are back from Tuscany and I’m one lucky guy!

I asked Freddie how he felt. He said: “A LITTLE TIRED…..AND A LOT FATTER!!!!!!!!!!!”

Well, I’m just glad they’re back.

These days — if you know where to look — you’ll find the three of us somewhere east of Broadway… somewhere south of Bloomingdales… in the Secret Garden.

Thanks to my uncle, Bruce Cayard, for capturing a moment as only he can (above & right.)

New to New York, Tucker Seeks a Sherpa-Date.

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

avatarHi, Sherpa!

I ‘m Tucker and I’ve posted once before.

Despite my “tough guy” name, I’m actually a girl. This may be why my mistress, Diana, calls me Tuck-Tuck.

I would love to have a play date with you one day, since I have just moved to NYC and don’t know many dogs.

I’m attaching a picture so you can recognize me when we do meet.  Diana and I hope to hear from you soon.
